Important question: What's the best post-sex food?

You roll over, satisfied after ripping each other’s clothes and having a hot, sweaty sexual sesh.

But while you may be sexually satisfied (well, we hope), you’re still hungering. For food, this time. All that boning really worked up an appetite.

SponsoredThings you need to know about if Pizza = Life

What do you suggest to your orgasm-buddy before you start scrolling through Deliveroo?

Are you a pizza person? A taco fan? Do you resort to whatever snacks are lying around the house? Do you send them downstairs to make you a big bowl of pasta?

Or are you one of those people for whom sex dulls all physical hunger (my desk-mate, Miranda, tells me she never thinks of eating right after sex)?

Are you someone who’s a bit weird about eating food in front of other people, so needs to send their partner away before they’ll order a stack of poppadoms?

These are important questions – and, I feel, your answer reveals a lot about who you are and how you view sex.

But to soothe your ‘BUT WHAT’S THE CORRECT ANSWER’ nerves, don’t stress – we do have an answer to the most popular post-sex food. That doesn’t mean it’s the right choice, just the one most people go for.

According to new research from Yelp, pizza is the most popular food to eat right after sex, with pasta and tacos coming in at a ‘distant’ second and third place.

Yelp surveyed 2,000 single American millennials, so their sample size is a touch limited, but the results make sense.

Pizza is one of the more popular delivery options in general. It makes sense it’d top the list for meals to eat immediately after a hookup.

But because the survey only looked at single options, we only know that pizza is the top choice for casual sex seshes. We don’t yet know the popular choice for coupled-up lovers.

And realistically, the answer could be totally different. If you don’t know someone very well, suggesting pizza is a safe bet. They’re likely to enjoy it, and even if they don’t, they’ll go along with the food plan to seem easygoing and chill.

Once you’re coupled up, you’re likely to be more comfortable disagreeing with the food choices of the person whose genitals have recently touched yours, hence the hours of naked JustEat scrolling as you debate the best sharing order.

The study also found that 14% find ordering food while their hookup is still around a ‘definite no-no’, while 35% would rather order take-out while their one-night stand is still hanging around, rather than going hungry or making a proper meal.

That makes sense, too. Ordering in is less committal, it’s relaxed, and you don’t have to get dressed and look like you haven’t just rolled around in bed for hours if you order in.

There’s a bit of a gender gap when it comes to eating takeout post-sex. While men were more up for ordering in with their one night stand, just 29% of women would be up for ordering in with a new sexual partner – likely due to social pressures for women to eat less in front of men.

But while the act of eating immediately after sex is a little complex (at what stage in a sexual relationship will you do it? Is eating in front of someone more intimate than being naked with them?), it’s the choice of food that interests us more.

Is there a definitive best type of post-sex food, that traverses both casual and serious relationship definitions?

I’d argue that, in general, we’re more inclined to eat unhealthy food after sex. We feel indulgent, hedonistic, so we’re not thinking about our diets. When it’s a casual hookup, we don’t want to seem high maintenance.

We also want ease of food access. Our hormones post-sex make us snuggly and sleepy, rather than keen for doing intense cooking.

And we want something that we can eat without having to budge from bed.

We asked people on Twitter what their favourite post-sex food is, and, at the time of publishing, pizza is the top contender.

We heard from multiple women that chocolate’s in the running, too, as well as whatever snacks happen to be in the house.

So, everyone, it’s time to get a more definitive answer – from people in relationships as well as keeping things casual, with the intention of analysing the data and working out what actually makes a decent post-sex sesh snack.
