TV chef Simon Rimmer has been announced as the latest celeb vying to win the Strictly Come Dancing glitterball.

The announcement was made on Rimmer’s TV show Sunday Brunch, with Strictly’s official Twitter feed revealing the news at the same time.

Their tweet read: ‘Ready to cook up a treat on the dance floor, Simon Rimmer is our 7th celebrity for 2017! Welcome @simonrim🕺✨.’

As the announcement was made on Sunday Brunch, co-host Tim Lovejoy joked: ‘If you don’t win, you’re going to lose your place on the show.’

Although Simon might have a lot of work cut out, seeing as he revealed he has ‘never ever danced in my life’ Hmm.

Of joining the show, Simon added: ‘I am so excited, terrified and proud to be invited to be part of Strictly 2017.

‘I’ve always been a HUUUUGE fan of the show. When I put on my sequins and hit the floor it will genuinely be my very first time dancing ballroom and latin. Nobody will try harder, have more fun or get more out of it than me. I can’t wait.’

Simon joins Joe McFadden, Reverend Richard Coles, Gemma Atkinson, Ruth Langsford, Davood Ghadami and Mollie King who have also been confirmed for the new series.

Gemma was confirmed as a contestant last week on BBC Breakfast.

She said: ‘It’s so out of my comfort zone, even wearing heels for me is a big one and wearing a sparkly frock. I just want to do something I’ve not done before,’ she said, adding that she’s hoping her professional dance partner will be ‘tall and strong’.

Gemma, who played Carly Hope in the ITV soap, also admitted she’s aware it’s going to be a gruelling scheduled, adding: ‘I’ve been told it’s knackering and the hours are long but since I was 15 I’ve been working.

‘I’ll still be doing the breakfast show from six until ten and then I’ll do the training and then go home and sleep!’

Ruth was confirmed as the third hopeful joining the line-up on Wednesday’s episode of This Morning.

And Rylan Clark-Neal was left overwhelmed by the news, coming close to tears to hear that Ruth would be putting on her dancing shoes for the popular TV show.

‘I have dreamt about doing Strictly for so long, I can’t quite believe my dream has come true! ‘ Ruth said of the opportunity.

‘The sum of my dance experience is throwing a few shapes at a party, I’ve never had a dance lesson in my life. Without doubt it will be the scariest yet most exciting thing I’ve ever done.

‘It will be a welcome change worrying about my next hot move instead of my next hot flush!’

Ruth joins The Saturdays singer Mollie King, who was the first celeb to turn twinkle-toes this autumn for the BBC dance contest, as well as EastEnders actor Davood Ghadami.

Ruth had long been one of the most sought-after contestants, and a source recently confirmed that she ‘has had long talks with show bosses and, barring any injury, will be waltzing her way on to the show this autumn’.

Davood’s spot on the show was announced by the BBC in a tweet on Tuesday which read: ‘Swapping Walford for the Waltz, @bbceastenders @DavoodGhadami steps into #Strictly 2017! 🕺🏾✨.’

Speaking of his decision to sign up to the ballroom show, Davood said: ‘Having the opportunity to take part in this year’s Strictly is such an honour.

‘It’s going to be exciting, challenging and terrifying all at once and I am so looking forward to stepping out of my comfort zone and learning to dance. See you under the Glitterball!’

And Mollie was confirmed in the line-up on Nick Grimshaw’s Radio 1 show on Monday.

Revealing she’d found it hard to keep the secret for so long, Mollie told Grimmers: ‘I can finally talk about it, thank goodness! I told my mum and dad, because you have to, don’t you?

‘I told Frankie (Bridge) and when I called her she was driving and she was so excited she had to pull in! The other girls don’t know… well they do now!’

This series will also see a new face on the judging panel after Len Goodman’s departure last year after 14 series.

In May it was revealed that ballroom dancer and coach Shirley Ballas would be his replacement, joining fellow judges Craig Revel Horwood, Darcey Bussell and Bruno Tonioli.

Speaking of her new role, Shirley said: ‘I am so excited and over the moon to have been given this wonderful opportunity.

‘I can’t wait to get in to the ballroom and be part of the incredible and respected judging panel. Strictly is so loved by the British public, I have always been a massive fan. I just can’t wait!’

Strictly is set to hit TV screens next month. More celebrity contestants will be announced in due course.
